About two weekends Bryan, who I've known since kindergarten, was in the hospital for unspecified reasons. He was released a couple days later proclaiming he'd have to make some serious life changes. He's always been a very fit person but he was going to have to give up smoking (a habit he's had since about grade 8). Today I found out he died from a heart attack on March 24th and his funeral is today.
Not until we started university did I realize how smart Bryan was. I wondered if he acted dumb because he was scared of what his friends would think. He couldn't hide it anymore once he was thriving in university. He finished a social work degree in 2002 and worked in the local jail ever since.
Bryan always had a soft spot for the downtrodden. He was a very generous supporter of the Humane Society and any organization that helped abused children. He had a good rapport with the inmates and wanted to be a good influence in their lives.
I'm so sorry. That is really sad. I'm glad he was able to have a positive touch with those people.
ReplyDeleteEven though he was decidedly a cat person, you two had a lot in common (professionally at least). Similar people are drawn to similar professions.
