I just got a call from the principal at the school I subbed at yesterday. Her and the teacher I subbed for are annoyed with me. They think I am not qualified to teach information processing classes. That is outrageous. I have all the computer teachers at two other schools who request me as a sub every time they are absent. They seem not to have a problem with me.
The problem is that the absent teacher yesterday wanted me to teach a lesson on queries in Microsoft Access. I spoke with her and my understanding was she had everything I needed for the class in a big binder in the classroom. There was absolutely no information about what specifically I was supposed to do (a common theme for the day). She told me about some other work they could work on instead so I made a call. I had no time to prepare a lesson (I had no computer access anyway) from scratch. Now I have the principal yelling at me on the phone telling me that I was misleading by saying that I could teach the class. She advised me that I should take info pro off of the list of classes I can teach.
Now here is my rant about the teacher I subbed for and school I was at yesterday. The teacher has taught for over 25 years and she is a bad teacher. She stands there and lectures at the students and that is it. The students are bored and don't learn anything. You think you would clue in to the problem since it is a school with over 800 students and they only have a single IP class. It has less than 20 students and it is an IP 10/20/30 class. The majority of the class is in IP 10. I had a larger class than that in a high school whose population was around 100 students. On top of that there is only one computer science class. This teacher is probably teaching the same things to her students as she did 10 years ago.
