I rule! (but you already knew that)

I made yogurt from scratch today. Our kitchen smells of cooked yogurt but it worked. I am going to put papayas in it tomorrow so beat that sister!

Work tonight I got a nose bleed a couple minutes after I arrived. That sucks. Work got better though. At first I thought it was going to a long night because the kid's section was a messy. The rest of the store was in good order. I was still done before midnight.

I noticed something this evening. Rosie the Riveter looks like Pat Benatar. Rosie came first so I guess Pat Benatar looks like Rosie. I've had "Love is a Battlefield" stuck in my head ever since.

Take a gander:

Chuck Klosterman would be proud

The IMDB poll asked today what people's favourite romantic-comedy was from a specific writer. This was one of the options "Sorry, I'm neither romantic nor comedic". Awesome.
The concert went fairly well yesterday. Ky and I missed the first little bit of dress rehearsal because they started it about 10 minutes early. We were some of the few people that did not go on the bus for the day. Since it appeared everyone was there and ready to go they started early. We missed about 3 movements of our first piece. We were shocked in concert how much faster we were singing one of them we had missed. I kept on zoning out during the concert and I messed up in a couple places. I don't think they were noticeable.

The real downer about the concert was no one we knew could see us. The ladies from the Saskatoon choir were in the balcony because there was not enough room on stage. All of our family and friends were sitting below the balcony we were sitting in. It is so strange to have a concert in the afternoon. I had to have a nap after supper. I could not bare to be awake for any longer.

I slept until my brother came over. We visited with the grandparents and parents for awhile until we decide upon a game of Animal Memory. You have the match the baby animals to their mothers. I was joking when I suggested because he gets annoyed when I ask but he agreed. I do not know why I love that game so because I lose ever single time I play. At least this match was close.

After Mike left, I went over to visit with Ky and her family. I enjoyed witnessing the love-hate relationship with them and their puppies. One minutes it is "the puppies have so much love" the next minute it is "they peed and pooped all over the place but they still have so much love".

Big night in the big city

[sarcasm] I am just exhausted from all the excitement of this evening [/sarcasm]

I ended up staying in this evening due to lack of options. The average age of the people in the house this evening was about 57 years. That included my grandparents, parents and myself. I was seriously skewing the average. The grandparents and parents spend most of the evening singing hymns. Not so appealing to me especially since I will be spending most of tomorrow singing at my dress rehearsal and concert.

I ended up napping, watching Numb3rs (with special guest star Lou Diamond Phillips) and a couple episodes of a Moving Up marathon on TLC. During the commercials I caught a couple minutes of Jimmy Kimmel Live. The glimpses I saw were rather strange and I am hoping can be explained in context which include:
- a cop and a midget fighting over a woman (the narration was sung)
- Sarah Silverman having to choose between Jimmy and Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson was wearing boxing gloves and holding a gun. They were all singing as well, obviously.
It was amusing but confusing.

What's the deal?

For a couple weeks, Wigan Athletics have been in second place of the English Premier League. Never heard of them before? That is because it is their first year EVER in the league. Three years ago they were at the bottom of the League One (used to be second division which is two tiers below premier league). That is truly amazing. They are ahead of Man Utd and Arsenal. This may change for them over the course of the season but it is remarkable that they are not at the bottom of the barrel.
Last night at work was a breeze. I finished before the cleaning crew and the cook. Booyah (sp?)

I am going to Regina this weekend for a choir concert. My mom's choir and my choir are doing two joint concerts. One this weekend in Regina and the other the following weekend in Saskatoon. I will possibly be traveling with Amanda and Ky. Hopefully me and the Hingston girls will be able to hit the last day of Agribition. Nonetheless good times will be had.

I think I'm in LoVe

with a website you freaks.

Mars Investigations: An (In)complete Guide to Veronica Mars

Tagline: Snarkily obsessive. Obsessively snarky.

I think they are trying to be modest by call it an incomplete guide. They have a characters section that has main, secondary and tertiary characters. They have a write up on any character that has been in more than 2 episodes. They even have a countdown to the next episode. These are my kind of people. The site says the contributors are a bunch of TWoPers so that would explain the snarkiness. I think I have met my match(es).

Earlier this week I emailed UPN about an error I found in a Veronica Mars quiz. It is pretty bad when you know more about the show than the channel that shows it.

Strange connections

Ok, I am still stunned by these people connections. Try to keep up with me...

Jenna Fischer
who plays Pam on the American version of The Office is married to James Gunn. James Gunn (who bares a strange resemblance to Seth Meyers) is writer and producer of the cult classic Tromeo and Juliet and brother to Sean Gunn. Sean Gunn plays "Human Kirk" on Gilmore Girls. The character Gunn from Angel was named after the Gunn brothers. Sean was once a roommate with Judy Greer of Arrested Development. My brain is in a pop culture tizzy.

They said it would never happen...

I remembered another story about my trip last week. On the last morning, I was awoken at 7pm so I could pack. That did not happen at all. I managed to get out of bed 10 minutes before breakfast.

I decided that I was just going to throw everything into my sleeping bag and cinch it up. People thought I was joking. I was so lethargic Sunday morning I just didn't care. I hate packing to go home. I don't mind packing to go on a trip because you have the excitement of the trip to motivate you. Packing on the way home when I do not want to leave and are not looking forward to the long trip home.

I threw as much as I could into the suitcase and rest into the sleeping bag. I figured that walking up and down the stairs was more effort than I was willing to out forth. I just threw most of my luggage from the top of the stairs to the main floor. All my mom did was raise her eyebrows and said nothing.

I still miss my sister. :(

EW.com Lost Articles

These articles are a must for any Lost fan. Not only do they summarize the most recent episodes but also points out somethings you might have missed and proposes some interesting theories.

Trip Stories continued

At the camp, I shared a room with Bronwyn and Ky. We were in an upstairs room that the walls were the under part of the roof (I know there is a term for it but I can't think of it). The first night I kept on banging my feet on the ceiling/wall. I generally did not sleep well at camp.

The meetings were good. With the exception of Uno one afternoon, my activities were just visiting. I was very glad to see my sister and was very sad to leave my sister. The camp went by so fast, I felt our time was too short together. There were other people that wanted to visit with Chris and Maryanne so I had to share. I cried when I hugged her good bye (not a normal Janny thing).

On the last morning of camp the ground was covered in slush. It had started raining over night and turned to snow. It was rather messy for driving home the first day. I was driving right before we got to our motel. We might have been able to go farther but we were too tired and I had a headache. I crawled into bed the moment we got in the room. I took some pain killers then slept for 12 hours. Proof of how tired and sick Janny was:
* I went to my beloved Taco Bell and only ordered a drink (I did not get a single chicken burrito).
* went to bed at 8:45 pm
* did not change into pjs for bed. Slept in jeans all night. Yuck. I was too tired to care.
* took out my ear plugs and carefully placed them on the bedside table. I usually remember when I wake up. I wish I had not taken them out since later that night my mom was snoring.
* after sleeping 12 hours, I slept most of the next day in the van

The closer we got to home the next day the more slippery the roads were. The last leg of the trip normally takes 2.5 hours and it took us 4 hours (Swift Current to Regina for those of you familiar with the area). I had been planning to go back to Saskatoon on Monday but a combination of a late start and bad roads, I stayed over night in Regina.

I traveled back to Saskatoon Tuesday afternoon. the roads were still lousy. It took me about 45 minutes more than usual to get home. I had to call and cancel a tutoring session for that night.

I'm not sure where I can fit this last story but it needs to be told. We were stopping in Sparwood (home of the world biggest truck) to take a bathroom break. The visitors' centre had closed about 20 minutes before we got there. We decided we would try the Husky down the road. We pulled up and realized that it was pretty small so we didn't know what they had for washrooms. We decided to use the A&W bathrooms because as my father put it the Husky bathrooms "were pretty well arranged by midgets". I am not sure what that means and I don't think he knows either. I will never let him live it down. He is notorious for say ridiculous things.

Those are all of the stories I can think of for now.

People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive

Actor and Stetson Man Matthew McConaughey is People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive

Crazy but true

David Sutcliffe aka Rory's dad on Gilmore Girls was born in Saskatoon. (The actor not the character, silly).

In other GG news, I almost cried last night at the end of the episode.

Not yet home

This past weekend I was at a church retreat in the U.S. of A. I was planning to be back home yesterday but due to bad weather and not feeling well, I am at my parents' house.

On Wednesday morning, I traveled to Regina after I dropped my roommate off at school. Her bus arrived too early and she missed it. To repay me she bought me breakfast at MacDonald's. A good start to the day.

My parents and I stayed in historic Fort Macleod the first night. I had one of the worst sleeps of my life. The mattress was so hard I could not get comfortable.

When we got to the US border, my parents greatly annoyed the border crossing guard. They did not have their picture ID ready when he asked for it. They claimed they didn't know they needed to be ready even though we had passed three signs that said we did. I explained to him "parents just don't listen". He thought that was pretty funny.

We arrived at the camp before most others did. I was glad since I really needed to shower. I was able to look presentable before supper.

I need to be getting on the road to Saskatoon. I'll post the rest of my adventures later.

I am so upset I have no words

Arrested Development's season has been cut from 22 episodes to 13. They, along with Kitchen Confidential, have been pulled from the schedule until December. The cast doubts that they will be picked up for the 2006-2007 season.

Finally, memories from my sister's wedding

My mom found my notebook I had been recording pleasant memories from the day before my sister's wedding. Mary was not feeling well so I told her we were only going to remember the good times about the day. Sorry it took so long to post these stories.

Friday, July 15 Memories
- girls with nets catching butterflies
- old man at medical clinic. Has a Scottish hat with a big red pom pom and the short vest ever. Also has black socks with white sandals.
- Chris R. put a fake umbrella tree in a ceiling fan at the church
- Chris and Janice run up and down the aisles with tulle "Olympic Opening Ceremony" style
- Ky and Janice crawl under 6 rows of pews commando style to grab Derek's ankles. Janice almost lost her pants so she arrived late. We did not surprise him.

I need to meet these people...

I found this in the theatre in the Education building before choir. I am endlessly amused.

Baa Humbug

This morning I got a call for subbing for 3 days this week (today though to Wednesday). Unfortunately I had to turn it down because I was already booked for today for THE MORNING ONLY in a different school division. I had to turn down 3 days of work because I had already committed to a half a day of work. I hate being a professional sometimes.

Summary of the weekend

* Helped a young man's coolness points go up by like 1000 points by visiting him at work. You know it's true!

* Almost crashed a wedding dressed as servers. If I had black pants with me I would have.

* Crashed a business conference. I have the name tag to prove it. I am Val Wolbert from Winnipeg. Nice to meet you.

* Stayed up waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too late watching Veronica Mars

* Was on the verge of yelling at a mother for poor parenting choices. I should have. Grrr.

* bought an off-white shrug sweater. I wonder what the Manolo thinks of the shrug?

* Met a man too short for his voice.

* Did not pay for parking downtown, yet.

* Partook in a Photographic Scavenger Hunt. Good times ensued. I will try to include pictures from it at a later date.

* A relative told me (after church) a story about a woman who was too busy to clean her house because she was "too busy becoming with child". What? I hope he meant being with child.

* Tutored for 2 hours.

* Tried a lox bagel with cream cheese for the first time.

I need to get to bed. I sub out of town tomorrow morning.

Alright

Matthew McConaughey turns 36 today. Celebrate by watching his greatest movie Dazed and Confused.
I always secretly wished related to these other McConaugheys I know. Then maybe, just maybe I could meet him. I guess my secret is out.

whaaaa?

Why are Lindsay Lohan, Quincy Jones and Jeremy Piven together? I'm confused. This seems like one of the more random celebrity groupings I have seen.

Pi Man

From an internet phone service ad

I wonder what his super powers are. I imagine he can recite pi to 10 decimals places or something.

Creeped out

I had a lousy night at the bookstore. I was upset even before I got there. On top of that, the store was a complete mess and I was so tired. After the cleaning crew left and I was alone in the store. I cried for most of the rest of the shift.

I was still crying while organizing the Religion section when the elevator door opened. Oh my goodness, I think it took 47 years off my life. There was no one around to push the button and it just opened on its own. Either the elevator is broken or the ghost of McNally Robinson is haunting the store.

Insane day

I am in the midst of a very busy day. I subbed a full day and tutored for 3 hours. In about 2 minutes I leave to work at the bookstore until about 1 am. I woke up at 7 today. I figure out that I have spent 1.5 hours of non-sleeping, non-working time today since I woke up this morning.
